Readings: Ezek 37: 1-14; Mt 22: 34-40
The readings of the day speak of love of God as first commandment which goes beyond all other commandments.
In the first reading, God shows his love by giving his life to everyone and particularly through the example of dry bones which symbolizes misery in life and the absence of God’s grace. When the hand of God is upon each one of us, there is no dryness. We should keep in mind that there is no end to the love of God. And he also urges us to share the same love with our neighbor.
In the gospel reading, Jesus challenges and invites us to show our love towards God above all things and our neighbour as we love ourselves. Jesus summarizes the commandments of the law with the word “love” and reminds and expects us to do selfless actions towards others than using mere words. Our love towards God and his people shows the true discipleship of Christian living.
Simple deeds of our love towards the other can help the other to experience God’s support and his providential care in times of problems, difficulties, sorrows and desperation. Nothing is
impossible to God because he is the source of all things. As we live in the world amidst many broken relations, let us promote that love which God has shown us through his Son, Jesus Christ. Let us fill our hearts with love and be led by the Spirit with respect and authentic love for every human being. We are called to live in love to live in God because God is Love.
