Readings: Acts 19: 1-8; Jn 16: 29 -33
Today’s readings invite us to reflect on the transformative nature of encountering the truth of Christ and embracing faith wholeheartedly.
In the first reading, we witness St. Paul’s preaching, which profoundly impacted the people in Ephesus, leading to their conversion. They all renewed their baptism as promised by the Holy Spirit. This reminds us of our receptivity to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which enlighten our understanding of Christ. When we are filled with the Spirit of the Lord, we praise God for his goodness, just as the psalmist does, trusting in God’s justice and knowing that he is with us in every circumstance.
In the Gospel, Jesus acknowledges the disciples’ growing comprehension of his divinity but also prepares them for the challenges ahead. He assures them of his victory over the world, offering peace even in the midst of tribulation. This reassures us that no matter what difficulties we face, we can find hope and strength in Christ, who has already overcome the world.
Today, we need to be filled with his Spirit so that we may not be scattered in the future when we encounter difficult moments. Therefore, the readings remind us of the importance of cultivating a deep and personal relationship with Christ.
It is through this relationship that we find peace, strength, and the courage to face life’s challenges. May we be inspired to boldly proclaim the Gospel, trust in God’s providence, and find solace in the victory of Christ over all adversities, wars, conflicts, and fights.
