Readings: Gen 22:1-19; Mt 9: 1-8
Both the readings of the day make us to reflect on faith. In the first reading, we see how Abraham’s faith was tested by God asking him to sacrifice his only son. Abraham so faithfully demonstrated his faith and trust in God expressing willingness to sacrifice his only son without a word of protest.
Today, for generations this act of Abraham is perfect example for nourishing faith. In the gospel reading there are two miracles taking place, the actual healing of the paralytic man and the forgiveness of sin. The former is of external the physical healing that took place, and the latter is more of spiritual healing or inner transformation.
Both require the healing power and intervention of God. So, the invitation from today’s reading is very clear. Have faith just like Abraham and exercise forgiveness just like our master who even forgave his executioners. It is forgiveness that makes our relationship stronger and healthy with God, with our neighbour is and self. And our call to discipleship is for that, to trust in God’s call and follow him till the end with commitment.
