We know from the Bible that we are created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27), orienting us towards the divine and longing to be part of his kingdom. This kingdom is compared to a treasure hidden in a field and pearls of great value, prompting the farmer and merchant who discover them to give up everything to possess them.
Anyone can inherit this kingdom by listening to and following Jesus’ teachings, as he embodies the fullness of divine revelation. His life and deeds pave the way to inheriting the kingdom worth more than any worldly possession.
Following his teachings allows us to encounter Jesus and find peace, joy, and consolation in our lives. As Pope Francis explains in one of his sermons, when we speak of the kingdom of God, it signifies God’s reign in our lives. Discovering this kingdom within us enables us to transform our lives, families, and society at large.
Saint Ignatius of Loyola, whose feast we celebrate today, discovered the kingdom of God within himself, leading to his transformative impact on society and the Church. Let us pray today that we may inherit the kingdom of God by faithfully following the teachings of Jesus.
