Bangalore: Rev. Dr. Moncy Nellikunnel, SDB (46) from the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province of Salesians of Don Bosco, Bangalore, has been appointed as the executive secretary to the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India CCBI (CCBI) Commission for Liturgy. He will take charge on 1 October, 2020 and will replace Rev. Dr. Ayres Fernandes from the Archdiocese of Delhi who will complete his second term in the office on 30 September, 2020.
Fr. Moncy was born on 2 April 1974 at Velielchal near Kothamangalam, Kerala. He joined the congregation of Salesians of Don Bosco and made his profession on 24 May, 1993 and ordained priest on 26 April 2003. He holds licentiate and doctorate in liturgy from the Pontifical University of Saint Anselm, Rome. His doctoral dissertation entitled “The Post-conciliar Liturgical Renewal in India”.
He is currently the professor of liturgy at Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore and visiting professor in various ecclesiastical institutes in India. He was the dean (2004-2007), registrar (2006-2007) and liturgical animator (2011-2020) of the Kristu Jyoti College. He is the author of two books and several articles in liturgy. The CCBI Secretariat for the Commission for Liturgy is at Shanti Sadan, Benaulim, Goa. Fr. Moncy will operate from the CCBI Secretariat Extension in Goa.
