Readings: Acts 9:31-42; Mt 10:22-25
Gospel reading of today unveils the struggle that each one will face in choosing Jesus’ mission. The reading also becomes a decision-making process in accepting to proclaim God’s love to the whole of humanity. Jesus tells us that working in his mission is not easy. It does require commitment and sacrifices.
Jesus himself was a sacrificial lamb and tells us that we should also be able to sacrifice our life. When we choose to work in his mission, we are called not for self-aggrandising. Therefore, Jesus tells us to be ready to receive humiliation, disappointment, rejection, etc. For if Jesus himself had to suffer, how much more his followers will have to suffer!
We are called to help one another without any reward in return. The present pandemic can become for us a chance to practice all that Jesus said. Let us rise in service helping people and thus make known what is ‘love for neighbour’ and what it means to give support to others.
