Readings: Acts 1: 1-11; Eph 1: 17-23; Mk 16: 15-20
Today we celebrate the ascension of the Lord into heaven. Jesus, having given power to the disciples to proclaim the good news to every corner of the world, to heal the sick, and to cast out the demons; he ascends to his Father promising that ‘I will be there with you till the end of the days’.
Yes, this command of Jesus was carried out by the disciples who toiled and worked in accordance with the commands and teachings given by Jesus, by proclaiming the good news and healing the people infected with all sorts of diseases.
The second reading invites us to know that it is the Lord Jesus who is calling for his work in different ways, but for the same Lord, who has given us the Holy Spirit to work for his kingdom. From the Gospel, the message is that each of us is called into the ministry of Jesus in some way, regardless of our culture, occupation, or status. Yes, after Christ ascended into heaven, he wants us to be another Christ, to imitate him, to be like him, who fulfilled the will of Father.
In the same way, he wants us to be the people who like to continue his mission in making God known, loved, and served, with care for the people we work with and for. Thus, we reflect and glorify the risen Christ in our surroundings and day to day living.
