Readings: Is 29:17-24; Mt 9:27-31

Today’s readings bring a message of hope and transformation, emphasizing the miraculous power of God and the fulfilment of His promises. Isaiah speaks of a future where the blind see, the deaf hear, and those who have strayed will come to understand. In the gospel, we witness Jesus’ healing of two blind men, demonstrating His compassion and divine power. This divine incident is a tangible testament to fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy in the first reading. And this miracle also tells us about the power of faith and the compassion of Jesus.

Saint Augustine says, “Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.” The blind men’s faith led to their healing, and through their example, today we are reminded to trust in God’s power and goodness. Just as the blind men in the Gospel persisted in their plea for mercy, we too are called to persist in our faith, even when faced with difficulties and uncertainties.

Pope Francis encourages us to trust in God’s mercy, saying, “God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking his mercy.” We must continually turn to God, trusting in His promise to renew and restore us. Isaiah’s prophecy and Jesus’ healing miracle remind us that God is always at work, bringing light to our darkness and hope to our despair. Let us keep our faith strong and hearts open to His transformative love.
