Readings: Mal 3:1-4, 23-24; Lk 1: 57-66
The readings invite me to prepare for the way for the Lord with joy and happiness. The first reading reminds me that God has sent his people, the messengers, to guide and direct me to the path that he wants me to walk in.
In today’s gospel reading, the infancy narrative of John the Baptist reminds me that God is ever faithful, merciful, and rich in his promises. God has remembered and favoured the family of Zechariah and Elizabeth with a child, even in their old age. God has shown me from this incident that he never takes back his words and promises that he has made in our lives.
I believe that God who has called and made his promise with me and continues to prepare me to welcome him on the day of his coming. God, through his messengers and prophets – my parents, teachers, formators and friends – prepares me externally and internally to receive him with joy.
The birth of John the Baptist before the coming of the Lord reminds me that God has planned everything for his people and reveals through his chosen ones. I am sure that the preparation in welcoming the infant Jesus into my heart brings love, joy, hope and peace in life. I also strongly believe that the birth of Jesus not only brings joy to Christians but to all. The birth of John the Baptist assured me today that God the Emmanuel will reign all our hearts and minds.
