Readings: Eph 2: 1-10; Lk 12: 13-21
First reading describes the state of humanity before and after Christ.
We were separated from God through death and sin, following the course of the world. But God in an act of incredible love and kindness made us alive through the death and resurrection of his Son Jesus Christ.
Gospel of the day tells to avoid any form of greed for wealth and other possessions because they do not guarantee eternal life. The man in parable saw his unexpected wealth and made plans to keep whole of it as long as he could. Today Jesus showed us that the man was deluding himself and forgot that the wealth he got was a gift from God and most importantly that the very life is also gift from God. Jesus tells us that anyone “who lays up treasure for himself on earth” is foolish (Lk 12:21).
Therefore, Jesus invites us to be rich in God. What does it mean to be rich towards God? When we consider all our possession, and even the very life itself as a pure gift from God and share with others we enrich the spiritual dimension of others too. We have the greatest example from our own country, St. Mother Teresa, who accepted the life as true gift from God and spent her whole possession of time, energy and whole being for the good of the humanity.
Lord Jesus helps us to see that our Father in heaven is the true source of all our possession and give us the grace to share with others the gifts you have given us for our own benefit and for others.
