Through this parable of unforgiving servant, Jesus speaks to me about the depth of forgiveness. This parable challenges me to become aware of myself asking questions: who am I, what am I?

I can become aware of myself through my self-realization. Many times, I realize that it is very easy to speak of forgiveness and to expect other’s forgiveness. But when it comes to me to forgive
others it is difficult and I even harbour revengeful thoughts.

This is how I fail in my personal life to understand the real meaning of forgiveness. I often take for granted the forgiveness of God and fail to forgive my fellow human beings in my daily life. If I start counting, how many times have I forgiven others? I feel I have not forgiven at all.

Then, how can I expect forgiveness from God? The Master in the parable, symbolizes the heart of God. It is challenging me because of his unconditional forgiveness. He continues to forgive me each time I make mistakes. In return, I show little mercy to my fellow human beings. This shows the littleness of my heart in forgiving the other. If I have a revengeful character, it means that I am not at all prepared to accept God’s forgiveness.

God’s forgiveness has no limit. Am I worthy to receive God’s forgiveness? Ezekiel says that God is merciful and patient. He doesn’t want me to sin. He forgives me in spite of my repeated infidelity, and he wants a relationship with me, and he expects me to do the same with all who insult me.
