In today’s gospel, Jesus teaches the value of openness through a couple and a transgender. All parents bring up their children with certain values. What about the parent who brings up a child who is a transgender? Most of the time, our society feels that they do not belong. It is a wrong conception; they are also children of God, like everyone.
How do a man and woman become one? Each of them has been brought up in different familial atmosphere and belief systems. The God who created and dwells in them makes them as one. The attitude of openness helps them to see the divine reality which is innate in them. How does one recognize that God is within him/her? A life which expresses love, compassion, kindness, selfless service, and good deeds shows that one lives in God and Jesus taught us these values through his life. It is the same with transgenders. I believe that as children of God, they too live with these good qualities and attitudes. Some of the transgender people have academic achievements and succeeded in life.
Despite this, the society has not accepted them as they are. Let us believe that God dwells in everyone. Let us ask the spirit of the Lord to give us the attitude of openness to accept people as they are.
