Readings: Acts 8: 1a-8; Jn 6: 35-40
The liturgy of the word invites us to reflect on the theme “Complete trust in God.” In the gospel we see how Jesus’ attitude of complete trust in God the father is revealed. He proclaims, “All that the Father gives me will come to me,” and all that He says and does are in accordance with the plan of the Father for, as he says, “This is the will of my Father.” Through these words, we understand that He has complete trust in God to establish his kingdom on earth.
This makes him offer grace to all who are open to his words. He gives the Spirit to his people to enable them to endure persecution and spread good news. In the Acts of the Apostles, we read about the message of salvation through Jesus spreading from Jerusalem to the rest of the world. It is also very clear that the complete trust and faith of the people in Jesus were strong in spite of persecutions. They even gathered around Philip to listen to him and witness him performing miracles in the name of Jesus.
In both readings we see Jesus never forces but invites. It is up to us whether to accept his invitation to go to him or not. Let us heed to His invitation and entrust ourselves to him because he has already paid the price for our sins. God will grant his promise of eternal life with him in heaven to those who believe and trust in him. So, let us pray that we may have complete trust in God and believe that through Jesus we gain eternal life.
