Readings: 2Cor 5: 14-17; Jn 20: 1-2, 11-18
Today we celebrate the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, the apostle to the Apostles. Both the readings of today invite each one of us to become a true radical follower of Christ like Mary Magdalene.
In the first reading, we see St. Paul speaking about the love of Christ.
Christ suffered, died and rose to life for all of us that we might have life in him. We live for Christ by surrendering ourselves into his hands and doing his will.
In the Gospel reading, we see Mary Magdalene as a true and radical follower of Christ. She followed Christ throughout her life.
It was her genuine love for the Lord that made her go looking for him. She remembers her past and how the Lord redeemed her. Therefore, Mary becomes the first person to witness the glory of resurrection. Mary is sent to inform it to the other disciples, and she does as Jesus tells her.
Her love for the Lord was immeasurably rewarded. Do we also really seek Christ like Mary Magdalene in our life? Do we love Christ like her?
Through this Gospel Jesus invites us to have strong faith like her to encounter Christ who is dwelling in our hearts. When we realize his presence in our hearts then we will be able to become radical followers of Christ like Mary Magdalene.
