Hear His message and Act on it

Readings: Eph 4: 1-6; Lk 12: 54-59

In the first reading, St. Paul strongly emphasizes that love, not knowledge, is the best way to God. Love and charity must always foster unity. If we profess one Lord, we must be united in heart and mind. We share one baptism and are baptized into the one body of Christ.

Therefore, we must be united with one another, sealed with one Spirit. It is impossible for true Christians to be divided. In the gospel, Luke presents a stark contrast when Jesus accuses his listeners: “You hypocrites, if you can interpret the signs of the earth and sky, why can’t you interpret the present time? Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?” These words seem harsh, but Jesus’ frustration is directed at those who hear his message but fail to act on it.

Although Jesus spoke clearly, many continued to challenge his teachings and failed to understand. Are we not the same? How do we understand God’s call in our daily lives? How do we respond to the challenges of the day? We can respond to today’s events and struggles by opening ourselves to God’s presence, trusting that he will be with us through every challenge we face.
