Help Others in Their Spiritual Journey

Readings: Heb 3: 7-14; Mk 1: 40-45

In today’s first reading, we are reminded of the Israelites’ rebellion in the wilderness, where they turned their backs on God and disobeyed his commandments. Despite this, God, in his mercy, made a new covenant with his people, offering them a chance for redemption. The writer of Hebrews urges us to remain faithful, helping one another stay on the path to eternal life as co-heirs with Christ.

In the Gospel, we see Jesus healing a leper, not out of obligation, but out of compassion. Although Jesus warns the healed man to keep his cure a secret, the man spreads the news, leading more people to seek Jesus. This story illustrates that God’s healing power is available to all, but salvation is not forced upon us. It is offered to those who choose to respond in faith.

Today, as we reflect on these readings, we also remember Saint Joseph Vaz, canonized in 2015. Saint Joseph Vaz dedicated his life to serving others in Sri Lanka, especially in the face of great adversity. Like Jesus, he chose to reach out to those in need, offering hope and healing. His example reminds us that, we are called to help others on their spiritual journey, staying faithful to his word and showing through our actions that we desire his salvation.
