Readings: Zech 2: 5-9, 14-15; Lk 9: 43-45
After the miraculous scene of the Transfiguration, Jesus foretells his future suffering, however the disciples failed to understand the meaning of his passion. Jesus Christ is asking me to examine the idea of suffering. The very thought of suffering itself makes me feel the pain and agony. As I was examining my idea of suffering, I realised that only when I see and understand the meaning of a ‘suffering Messiah’, I can fully understand and know the way of Jesus.
We need to understand the meaning of suffering through the eyes of faith. This faith is a gift, and I must seek it from God in all my humility, so that it will shed light on my life. It will lead me to a knowledge greater than a purely human one.
What is the suffering Christ trying to tell me through this gospel reading? As I was reflecting on this; I realised that as I am following Christ, there shall be moments of distress, agony, pain and so on. Also, a time may come by when my discipleship could be tested by the fire of trials and sacrifices. In such moments, I need to hold onto Christ with full faith.
