Readings: Rev 11: 4-12; Lk 20: 27-40
The first reading tells about the two olive trees and two lampstands which symbolize God’s chosen people on earth whom he preserves and cares for. They become precious in the sight of God. Though a person dies physically, he/she lives in Jesus Christ after death. He has power over death and sin.
This reading also tells me about how strong my relationship with God needs to be. Today we celebrate the feast of presentation of blessed Virgin Mary. This feast reminds us to build a strong relationship with God like Mary who committed to God by saying a big yes in her early age and kept the promise till the end of her life. Here her relationship with God was beyond the earthly ways.
As we celebrate this feast, let us present ourselves before God with singlemindedness and a gentle heart and do always what is needed to strengthen our relationship with God. The gospel reading focuses on resurrection in Jesus Christ. The resurrection is a bond of complete reunion.
As we believe in Christ Jesus, there is resurrection in him, a new life, a relation which is unbroken because we become an angel or saint in his sight. In this present generation, are we able to keep ourselves pure? We are entangled in relationships, daily activities and seemed to have lost focus of Christ’s presence in life. Let us ask ourselves, ‘how strong is my relationship with God in terms of prayer, attending mass, praying rosary?’
