I Need to be Patient with God

Readings: 1Jn 2:12-17; Lk 2:36-40

The highlight of today’s gospel is the prophetess Anna. We can see her joy after meeting the Lord who was to be the deliverer of Jerusalem. Many longed to see Jesus the Savior of the humankind, but Anna was the blessed one among them to see Jesus before her death. The gospel clearly mentions that she was 84 years old when she met the Lord.

Anna never left the temple but worshipped God with fasting and prayer. Many a time, I want to put God first but cannot be focused as Anna was. In her hidden life she prayed to God quietly. Her hidden life as well as hidden fervent prayer helped her to see the Lord. That was the desire of her heart. If we carefully observe the last sentence of the gospel today, it speaks of Jesus’ hidden life.

In the same way, it is no mistake to live quietly and pray without ceasing just like the prophetess Anna. God will favor me when the time comes. A life of prayer and sacrifice is necessary. While asking God’s favor upon me it is essential that I wait and pray without ceasing. As he favored and blessed Anna, I also will be blessed to see God working in and through my life. According to his will God will grant my requests when I wait patiently.
