Readings: Gen 3: 9-15,20; Jn 19: 25b- 34
Today the church remembers Mary, Mother of the Church. In both readings, the character of the woman is highlighted.
In the book of Genesis woman was portrayed as the one who causes sin and led astray humanity from God’s love. And the birth of a new woman was foretold in the first reading who would give birth to the saviour who will save humanity from their sins.
In the gospel reading, we see Mary at the foot of the Cross, and Jesus entrusting Mary to his disciple.
Today we pay our homage to our mother Mary, who intercedes for us and for the growth of the church. The life of Mother Mary continues to inspire many Christians even today not because she was the mother of God but her simplicity and faith in God, her trust and cooperative attitude in the divine plan and her commitment in following Christ.
Today we are invited to inculcate the virtues of Mother Mary in following Christ. After the death of her son Jesus, she continued to be the guide for the Apostles and today she continues to be the guide for the church and intercessor for us. We ask Mother Mary to give us courage and wisdom in imitating her virtues in following her son Jesus Christ.
