In God’s Eyes, We Are Glorious

Readings: 1Cor 7: 25-31; Lk 6: 20-26

Today’s readings speak to us about the importance of detachment. In the first reading, Paul reminds us that we should not be defined by the world, “for the world in its present form is passing away.” Jesus further deepens this call to detachment by extending it beyond material possessions to include abstract ideas like control, security, and esteem.

This is not to say that we should reject or deny these aspects of life, but rather, we should not depend on them, make them our priorities, or strive to hold onto them at all costs. To live according to Jesus’ teachings, we are called to let go of our fears so that we can be courageous. We must release our doubts to cultivate trust. We should relinquish our need for control to allow ourselves to be vulnerable. We need to move beyond our desire for affirmation to speak the truth freely.

Letting go of our need for security enables us to risk everything for the sake of building God’s kingdom of unity. Jesus tells us that we are blessed when we embrace all we have as a gift, both the good and the bad, and when we understand the true nature of poverty and wealth in our lives.

Today, Jesus invites us to detach from worldly pride, to foster love and compassion for those around us, and to share our goodwill without expectations. The psalm of the day beautifully reflects God’s view of our worth and beauty. In God’s eyes, we are glorious, and he delights in us above all else. Listen to God’s song of love for you and let go of everything else.
