Readings: Acts 13: 13-25; Jn 13: 16-20
We read in the book of Proverbs 11: 2, disgrace always follows pride; but wisdom resides with the humble. This is what we see in both the readings of today. Paul proclaimed to the people of Antioch about the Messiah, who came to save the people and to liberate them from their sins, but human pride could not accept him as their Messiah or saviour therefore they killed him.
The Disciples called Jesus, master during his lifetime. But today we see in the reading the master coming down to the level of his disciples and washing their feet. And by doing this Jesus was setting an example for his disciples that they should be servant leaders in proclaiming His words and deeds. Jesus’ humility is a sign of God’s love for humanity.
Our act of humility should proclaim Christ. We need to become servant leaders in serving Christ and his people. Pride is one of the reasons which make us go astray from God. Many people face problems in their relationships because of pride. Many face challenges in dealing with people in various fields because of their pride. It is very challenging to be humble. But pride brings disgrace whereas humility brings wisdom, that wisdom and humility we see in the person of Jesus. Today let us pray that we may inculcate the virtue of humility in proclaiming Christ.
