Readings: Eph 3:2-12; Lk 12:39-48
The gospel reading reminds us to stay awake and alert because we do not know God’s plan for us or what the future holds. Our duty is to be ready always, both physically and spiritually, so that we are not caught unprepared when he comes. The first reading calls us to be good and faithful stewards to our brothers and sisters in Christ. God has a plan for each of us, and he expects us to live in accordance with his will. However, like the unfaithful servant, we sometimes misuse our freedom.
Today, we remember St. John of Capistrano, who exemplified faithfulness and dedication to God’s mission. He believed in the power of prayer and the importance of living a life rooted in faith. His commitment to preaching and reforming society reflects the essence of being good stewards. He called people to repentance and encouraged them to trust in God’s providence, reminding all that true freedom comes from living according to God’s will.
In today’s world, many of us mirror the attitude of the unfaithful servant. We become spiritually indifferent and neglect our responsibilities to ourselves and others. We often act as if we control the future. This parable is a wake-up call for us to reflect: How is my relationship with God, with others, and with myself? Am I faithfully fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to me? Do I do what is expected of me, or do I simply follow my own desires?
