Readings: Heb 5: 1-10; Mk 2:18-22
In those days fasting was one of the religious practices and still, it is followed on some occasions in the church as well. We heard from the Gospel reading that John’s disciples and the Pharisees were very much familiar with the rules and regulations of those days and strictly followed them. Therefore when the Pharisees saw that Jesus’s disciples were not following the rules and regulations of fasting, they were really surprised.
Therefore they question Jesus on why his disciples are not fasting? Jesus considered himself as the bridegroom therefore he said as long as the bridegroom is present there is no need to fast. Jesus’ presence in our lives is seen through the presence of one another. When we come together, we cherish the God-given gifts to bring joy and happiness to one another. The presence of Jesus makes his disciples happy and help them to forget all difficulties and pain in their life. Through this reading, Jesus invites me to renew myself and have a newness of life in him. He is present always in my life.
Therefore, I need to be humble in my life. When Jesus leads my life, I walk on the right path, and I choose to be different than before. When I encounter Jesus, I am transformed.
My old life and behaviours transform into new life. Jesus gives new life to all those who come to him.
