Bangalore: Walking the pavilion with priests and sporting a white cap and a cricket jersey, Archbishop Peter Machado (Bangalore Archdiocese) knocked the first ball off at a cricket match of his Archdiocesan priests.
The cricket match organized under the aegis of the Clergy Association of Bangalore (CAB) was started during the leadership of Fr. Adolf Washington, (Sec) Fr. A S Anthonyswamy (VP) Fr. Vinoo Fabian, Fr. Benedict Rajesh, Fr. Arockiadass and other core members.
Titled Priest Premier League – 2019, the tournament comprised teams such as Lions of Judah, Bulls of Bashan, Sons of Thunder, Mighty Warriors, Tongues of Fire and Angelic Trumpeters
The Holy Ghost Church ground (Redemptorists) was filled with priests, both young and old. Some played, some cheered. Players clad in Green, Red, Blue and orange were seen warming-up.
Delegates of the sponsors were also present.
While inaugurating the tournament, the Prelate, Archbishop Peter Machado said, “It feels so good to see priests come together for recreation. Togetherness on these occasions spells unity and love. Let’s work in this direction,” The Archbishop greeted the players and launched the game.
By getting on the front foot, the Reverend Machado is showing the right technique. Widening the scope of ministry is a long felt need. Cricket, football, hockey, Kabaddi, Kho Kho, volley ball, Basketball, Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, etc sharpen physical and mental reflexes.
