Readings: Jer 17: 5-8; 1 Cor 15: 12, 16-20; Lk 6: 17, 20-26
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord.” The readings of the day invite us to have strong faith and trust in the Lord. Through the first reading, we are called to examine ourselves: who do we trust? Do we trust the Lord or ourselves? Often, we are like our ancestors who failed to trust the Lord and depended on their own power and strength. Let us realize that the total trust in
oneself may never give us an everlasting life and joy, but trusting in the Lord does.
The second reading once again invites us to have faith in the risen Lord, that we too one day will be raised with him in glory. The gospel reading of the day speaks of the present suffering as a stepping stones to future glory. We attain joy and happiness after trials, sufferings, and challenges. We grow deeper in faith when we are faced with challenges. We depend on the divine when we realize our human limitations.
The gospel reading is a call for all of us to trust and depend on God that we may celebrate in our poverty, be satisfied in our hunger, and laugh in our sorrow; because the Lord is with us. Therefore, let us seek the grace to keep our trust in the Lord even in our human limitations.
