Let Go of Anger, Pride, and Selfishness

Readings: Rev 10:8-11; Lk 19:45-48

Today’s readings remind us of our call to keep our hearts pure.

In the gospel, Jesus cleanses the temple, driving out those buying and selling there. Through this act, he teaches us that God’s house should be free from distractions and worldly concerns, a place for worship and communion with the divine. Similarly, our hearts are temples where God longs to dwell, needing to be pure and open, free from the clutter of daily worries.

In the first reading, John receives God’s word, which transforms him and sets him on a path of service. This shows that inviting God’s word into our hearts with sincerity can reshape us, drawing us closer to him and making us instruments of his love. If we view our hearts as temples, we should ask: what would Jesus find there that doesn’t belong?

Just as he cleared the temple of distractions, we must look within and let go of anger, pride, and selfishness that cloud our hearts and hinder our experience of God’s presence. Removing these obstacles allows God’s love, peace, and grace to enter and dwell within us, letting his light shine through our actions.
