Readings: Rev 21:9 b-14; Jn 1:45-51
Today we celebrate the feast of the apostle, St. Bartholomew. God takes the initiative by calling us through different people and events. The purpose of our life is to be with him and for him. The readings of today invite us to reflect upon our vocation.
In the book of the revelation, the angel invites John, and in the gospel, Philip invites Nathanael. In both these incidents, there are invitations for us to come and see God. Sometimes we feel that we are not worthy, but God’s ways are different from ours. He can do marvellous things despite our unworthiness.
This journey is not a one-day transformation or a one-day journey but a lifelong process. God, out of his goodness, is forming us to be as he wants us to be. Jesus knows everything about our life, that is why we see Jesus praising Nathanael in the gospel, not because of his qualities but because of his sincerity.
This is challenging for each one of us as we journey in this life following Christ. To be with him and for him, we need to be convinced of our call and surrender ourselves in the hands of God. Through these readings, we are being invited to experience Jesus personally and be ready to share him with others. We are called to spread God’s kingdom far and wide by sharing and inspiring others through our words and deeds.
Let our life be good examples to those around us. And how blessed are we if Jesus acknowledges us saying ‘in him/her there is no deception.’
