Let the Words of Jesus be Our Strength

Desing John csc –

Readings: Heb 12: 1-4; Mk 5: 21-43

The readings tell us of the significance of the sacraments of healing. The sacraments of healing are penance and anointing of the sick. The whole concept and understanding of confession are coming to the realisation that God knows our deepest secrets and hurts.

Jesus sees what is inside us which no one else does. Therefore, the woman suffering from haemorrhage realised that Jesus alone knows her, she fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth. And she was healed. Sacrament of reconciliation has the power to heal both body and soul. Remember, faith in the power of Jesus and in the invisible grace of the sacrament should be the key factor in our approach to the mystery of the sacraments.

The little girl was brought back to life because of the faith of her father in the person of Jesus. Jairus recognised the power of laying on of hands by Jesus, as he invited Jesus saying, ‘come and lay your hand on her, and that she may be made well and live’. This act of laying on of hands is still relevant and powerful to this day through the ordained ministers of the church. How much do we believe in the healing power of Jesus? There are sicknesses that no physician can heal but Jesus alone.

Let the words of Jesus “do not fear, only believe” be our source of strength and healing when we are knocked down with desperate situations. Allowing the hands of Jesus to take control our lives will certainly enable us to experience the dawning of new hope at the end of the dark tunnel.
