The liturgy of the day invites me to live for the gospel and for values. In today’s gospel reading, Jesus showed me how to live by the gospel and accomplish the will of God through his lifestyle on earth. Jesus was misunderstood and ridiculed by people as they did not understand that Jesus had the power to heal and give life to others. They did not even recognize Jesus as the son of God, the promised Messiah of the world. They had only seen him working as a carpenter, earning his daily bread. People thought that unlike the Pharisees Jesus teaches us with authority.
So, they concluded that he was out of his mind. The family people of Jesus were influenced by what the people said. So, they went out to take charge of him, as Jesus was no more following his ordinary pattern of life at Nazareth. Every family member is concerned about the good name of the family. The real problem was that they did not understand the personality of Jesus. For them, Jesus was the son of carpenter Joseph. As I reflect on the three verses of this passage, the question that comes in mind is: what is it that Jesus mainly expects and reminds me to do? It is faithfulness to the call I have received from God and life according to the gospel every moment and situation of life.
Through this gospel reading, Jesus also assures me that he is with me always, to fulfil the plan of God.
