Let’s be Healed of Our Bad Habits

Readings: Ezek 47: 1-9, 12; Jn 5:1-16

The first reading shows us a powerful vision of God’s generosity through the actions of an angel. The angel acts as Ezekiel’s guide, showing him around the Temple, and from within the Temple comes the water. This reveals God’s Spirit’s work in the temple. We see what type of things happen when the Spirit is at work among the people of the Lord. This reading reminds us that God comes to us like a river through the work of the spirit.

The Gospel reading of today reveals that healing comes from the Lord. The man was ill for 38 years. He wasn’t cured for the past 38 years but when Jesus blessed him he was immediately cured. This reveals that healing comes from the Lord and we need to trust in him. This also invites me to care for the needs of the poor and suffering as Jesus did to a man who was eagerly waiting for someone who can take care of him and heal him. Thus, we all are invited to serve and care for the people of God. Jesus took initiative to reach out to people.

He healed the sick and cast out the demons and visited the families in his time. We also need to take initiative to be healed from our bad habits, jealousy, gossiping, and stubbornness of heart. When we are free from these shortcomings we can be active in our ministry places. And it can be seen that our ministry is fulfilling and flourishing. God works for those who are humble and accept God’s message in their lives.
