Today, we joyously celebrate the solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, reflecting on the profound role she played in the salvation of humankind. The title “Mother of God” finds its roots in the Western tradition, originating from the Greek word Theotokos, which translates to “God-bearer.” This designation emphasizes Mary’s unique role in bearing and bringing forth the divine.
The scripture readings of the day, offer valuable insights into our identity as God’s people. They remind us that God abundantly blesses those who willingly submit their wills to him, echoing Mary’s profound example. In contemplating Mary’s example, we are called to emulate her by receiving the Word of God into our hearts. Like Mary, we are invited to reflect on God’s will in our lives and act accordingly for the greater good of society.
As we embark on this new year, let us introspect and ask ourselves: Am I, like Mary, a bearer of Christ in the world? May this reflection inspire a renewed commitment to living out the teachings of Christ in our daily lives, embodying his love and compassion for the benefit of all.
