The gospel reading invites us to discern the will of God. God chooses people for different purposes. In this reading, Jesus chooses the apostles who have failures, limitations, insufficient courage, and unbelief. But the Lord assures them that he will be there with them till the end of time.
These apostles were also the pillars of the Church. This reading reminds me of my call to religious life and also demands to answer His call with complete self-surrender and with much dedication to serve him. When I look into my life in a challenging world can I become a pillar of faith as the apostles? For this I need to go through a personal conversion.
The first reading gives me an invitation to be rooted in my faith in him. In him there is fullness of life, a spirit of encouragement, and boldness in preaching the word of God to the faithful. When I give myself one hundred percent to God, nothing will hurt me from doing God’s will provided I surrender to him completely. So, I need to listen to his word attentively and be ready to respond to it.
