Readings: Eph 6:1-9; Lk 13:22-30
Today, the liturgy of word invites us to go through the narrow door to be saved. The reading also shows the way to the narrow door. The first reading provides a basic value for family life and values to live as a Christian. In our Indian tradition children have great regard and respect for parents and elders. At the same time parents are expected to support the children, by taking care of them and giving them good education.
St. Paul also speaks about the same value to the Ephesians. He expects the children to honor their parents and the parents to guide them with discipline and instructions. Christ suffered and died for all and paid his life as ransom for many. Therefore, we need to be sincere in heart and faithful to Christ in our words and actions. The gospel reading of the day invites us to fulfill certain conditions to enter heaven.
In our daily life the narrow door is the way and means to overcome our challenges. On this earth there are many people, like priests and religious, who show that narrow door to us. If we are awake and listening to these people, we surely will enter the narrow door, and we will be saved. Today, Christ is inviting us to go through the narrow door. The ways to that narrow door are the basic values of a good Christian. As a faithful servant of Christ let us live our life in accordance with Christian family values, by respecting, honoring each other and being faithful to Christ in our every action.
