Readings: Num 12: 1-13; Mt 14: 22-36
Today’s liturgy projects before us two common sicknesses all of us face daily. Though we try our best to come out of it, yet we fail. We try to find all possible ways to get a cure or come out of those issues but fail to. These two sicknesses are physical sickness (e.g. Miriam’s leprosy) and emotional sickness (e.g. fear of disciples).
During this pandemic, the spread of the infectious virus has been increasing day by day. It is the right time to understand that the cure for both sicknesses can be found in Jesus. The more we doubt like Peter in the gospel, our emotional sickness of fear will increase and may force us to sink into sinful activities. With our human nature, falling in sin and losing faith in God are bound to happen. It is important to realize what we do after the fall.
Today’s readings instruct us what should be our response in these situations. Just like Aaron and Peter, we are invited to surrender ourselves fully to the mercy of God and seek his favour to hold our hands and lift us up from our fears and doubts. Today, let this be our prayer: Lord, increase my faith in you that I may not doubt you again!
