Readings: Gen 28: 10-22a; Mt 9: 18-26
The gospel reading of the day presents to us two incidents in which people experienced divine intervention. In the first incident a ruler received his daughter back to life through the intervention of Jesus. And in the second incident a woman experienced healing by touching the cloak of Jesus. Both approached the Lord with expectant faith and confidence in his help.
In the first reading Jacob placing trust in Lord’s protection said, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to wear, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God.”
The experience of Jacob, the ruler and the woman with the haemorrhages tells us that our Lord in tenderness and compassion responds to those who place trust in him. We need to go to Jesus. But often there are many barriers that block us from going to Jesus. Let us look into ourselves; what are the obstacles that prevent us from approaching the Lord? Do we believe that our Lord has the power to meet our desperate needs?
