Readings: Eph 5:21-33; Lk 13:18-21
The readings invite me to be humble and to respect others with dignity and love. They beckon me to build relationships in my little ways. I am encouraged to make contributions to the life of others which would make them feel a little better and a little happier after meeting me.
In the first reading, Saint Paul encourages married couples of Ephesus to respect and love each other after the model of Jesus who loves his Church. The Church in return submits itself to Jesus so that Jesus would sanctify it. Saint Paul motivates the couples to love each other as they would love themselves because with marriage, they are in union in Christ.
In the Gospel, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God with the grain of mustard seed and the leaven. Though they are little in nature but have great significance as the seed becomes a tree and the leaven changes the whole batch of dough when it is mixed with it.
Many times, I failed to cherish the details of life because of my pride. I fail to initiate a loving relationship with the people around me. I get upset sometimes for not being able to do great and large things in my life. But today, I am uplifted in my motivation to live Jesus in humility, doing little things with great love in my life. I am encouraged to respect and love others as the image and likeness of God and to share even my little joys with them.
