Today’s Gospel is Jesus’ prayer of gratitude to his Father who chose to reveal himself to the humble. It also contains a warning that pride can keep us away from love and knowledge of God.
His joy explains his relationship with God the Father. Those who are childlike can encounter God. This is because a child is free from pride. Often it is our pride that prevents us from the knowledge of God.
The first reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah assures God’s care and protection for his people.
Therefore, the Lord says he will not abandon his people. When God is in favor of us, who can be against us? Today the readings talk to me about God’s reward to those who are humble enough to acknowledge their weaknesses and failures.
Dear Lord, grant me the humility to possess the wisdom and knowledge that come from you while maintaining a childlike disposition. Help me to depend on you as a loving child.
