In today’s readings, God is assuring me that he will save me, if I am faithful to him and serve his people who are underprivileged in society. In our society, people are under privileged not only monetarily but also with regard to food, human dignity, self-respect.
Like teachers who focus on children who do not study well to better their students’ future, I am encouraged to serve the poor who are limited by money, education, and face failures in life, so that I get good marks in the eyes of God and society.
St. Mother Teresa of Kolkata worked for the betterment of the poor; she welcomed the poor to her house and fed them till her last breath. All the work she did for them was not for rewards, but because she saw Jesus in people who were suffering.
All these deeds happened discretely but the news about it spread like wildfire among the people through which she was able to proclaim the kingdom of God in her own way. I am also invited to proclaim the kingdom of God in my own little ways in the community by helping people in need. Eventually it will become my habit and I will be able to do same in the future wherever I am sent.
