May His Light Shine on Our Lives

By Thomas Lima csc

Readings: Is 9:2-7; Titus 2:11-14; Lk 2:1-14

The readings for today’s celebration of Christmas reveal the meaning and impact of Jesus’ birth for us. Isaiah prophesies the birth of a child who will bring light, joy, peace, and justice to those who live in darkness. This child is God’s faithful and a powerful gift to his people. The second reading reminds us that this gift is God’s grace that saves everyone.

The passage also urges us to live in a way that honours God’s love and the redemption he offers through Jesus. Luke tells us the story of how Jesus was born in a humble manger and how the shepherds were the first ones to hear the good news. This shows us that God’s salvation is for all people, no matter who they are or what they do.

These readings invite us to rejoice in the wonderful gift of Jesus and to let his light shine on our lives. They also challenge us to share his love and peace with others, especially those who are poor, marginalized, or oppressed. By doing so, we celebrate the true meaning of Christmas and the hope it brings to the world.
