Readings: Acts 17: 15, 22 – 18: 1; Jn 16: 12-15
In today’s first reading, St. Paul is facing the people in Athens. As history notes, at the time it was the most learned city in the world. He speaks of a God who is unknown but revealed in Jesus, experienced through the Holy Spirit and also known through the creation story. In him, we live, move, and have our being.
In the gospel, Jesus speaks once more about the unique relationship between Father, the Son and the Spirit, the mystery of the Trinity. Three persons, who share everything, even the divinity, so that there is only one God. It is a community of love and truth. The three persons live in the love of sharing their truth.
When we become more open to the “Spirit of truth”, it will guide us into a loving and true relationship with God and others. Jesus wants to draw us into the life of God. Jesus still speaks to us in our prayer, Holy Eucharist, and holy hours that help us grow in love, friendship, and in understanding the ways of God. The Spirit assists us while we meditate on God’s message and helps us to recognise God’s plan in our life. May the Lord strengthen my ability to receive and listen to the Spirit.
