Tura: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) North East region organised its regional council meeting 2024 from May 10th to 12th, 2024 at the Pastoral Centre, Tura Diocese in the West Garo Hills district of the Indian state of Meghalaya. The meeting brought together representatives from the 15 dioceses under ICYM North East, marking a significant event for the youth movement in the region.
The three-day program was packed with various activities, including the election of ICYM NE Office Bearers for 2024-26, discussions on agenda concerning the movement, sharing of youth concerns, Eucharistic celebrations, and more. The meeting was presided over by Most Rev. Andrew R. Marak, Bishop of Tura, who celebrated the inaugural mass, and Most Rev. Jose Chirackal, Auxiliary Bishop of Tura, who celebrated the concluding mass and administered the oath-taking ceremony, blessing the new regional team.
The election of the new regional team was conducted under the guidance of the election commissioner, Rev. Fr. Albert Leivon, DYD Imphal Archdiocese. Elections were held for eight posts, with leaders representing various dioceses across the North East Region, including Shillong, Aizawl, Kohima, Guwahati, Jowai, Diphu, and Nongstoin.
During the three-day program, the outgoing regional team was felicitated, honoring their hard work and dedication. The new team will commence their training with a Live In Program in June, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. John Barman, Regional Youth Director, and Rev. Sr. Wansuk Lyngdoh, Regional Youth Lady Animator.
The successful organization of the Regional Council Meeting 2024 by ICYM North East Region demonstrates the movement’s commitment to empowering and engaging Catholic youth in the region. The election of a diverse team of leaders from across the North East Region ensures that the concerns and aspirations of youth from various backgrounds are represented and addressed.
As the new team embarks on their journey, they face the challenge of continuing the momentum and building upon the successes of their predecessors. With the guidance of the Church and the support of the youth, ICYM NE is poised to make significant strides in fostering a vibrant and engaged Catholic youth community in the region.
