Belagavi: Archbishop Peter Machado has appreciated services rendered by Monsignor Fr Lucio Mascarenhas as the saintly priest who has touched many lives during the span of his life as a priest. Archbishop Peter was in Belagavi on Thursday, his maiden visit after assuming charge as the Archbishop of Bengaluru on May 31 and was presiding over the platinum jubilee felicitations that were held at the premises of Fatima Cathedral.
The celebrations commenced with a thanksgiving Eucharist at the Fatima Cathedral that was presided over by Monsingor Lucio and concelebrated by Archbishop Peter Machado, Fr Aniceto Pereira, Fr Austin Maurice, Fr Philip Kutty, Fr Jack Menezes and over 100 priests and nuns were present. In his homily Fr Aniceto briefed about the Monsignor Lucio and how he has lived his life based on teaching of Jesus Christ.
Speaking further during his presidential address Archbishop Peter highlighted on the services rendered by Monsignor Lucio. “Known for his silence, prayerfulness and selfless services to the people of all religions, Monsignor Lucio has been an inspiration and guiding force to many, including myself. People of Belagavi, Karwar and neighbouring diocese are fortunate and are indebted to have benefitted from the services rendered by Monsingor Lucio, who has laboured tirelessly as the true servant of God,” Bishop Peter said highlighting the humanitarian services rendered by Monsingor Lucio since last five decades.
Rev Fr Fidelino Araujo, former Rotary International district 3170 governor Basil D’souza, Louis Rordrigues and others paid rich tributes to Monsignor Lucio Mascarenas. A memento was presented by the diocese of Belagavi by Archbishop Peter and administrator of the diocese Fr Eusebio Fernandes. Parishioners of Cathedral Parish and Uzwaad Pariwaar presented citations. United Christian Forum and other organisations also felicitated on the occasion.
Catholics belonging to different parishes in the city were present in large number.
