Readings: Mic 5: 1-4; Mt 1: 1-16,18–23
Today we celebrate the birthday of our blessed Mother Virgin Mary. She is a mother to whom I simply pour out my life and she responds. Mother Mary’s accompaniment in the early life of Jesus reveals God’s mighty hand in his life. It is the same when he said to his disciples, “Here is your mother”. It symbolizes God’s protection of the disciples.
As I remember her earthly life, it tells me that she is God’s grace to the world that leads us to God. As a seminarian, whenever I was disappointed and lacked enthusiasm in life, I would talk to my mother and feel strong and energized to continue my life. Whenever we meet this beloved mother in our family prayers, in Church and various places, she has promised God’s presence in our lives. She asks us today to become God’s grace to others.
From her immaculate birth, she has been a grace to the people and disciples. We can give many meanings to her birth. She was a proof of God’s presence amidst people. She is our mother who listens to our sufferings. I believe she lives with us and invites us to reveal God’s presence to others.
