Guwahati: NESCOM, the communication wing of NEIRBC (North East Regional Bishops’ Council), presented the NESCOM Journalism Award 2021 to noted journalist Pores Aind on December 15 at Guwahati for his contribution to outstanding Catholic journalism.
Aind is a Catholic journalist from Northeast India who contributed to uphold the true ideals of journalism and as played a prophetic role in reporting and writing on relevant issues.
In an impressive function held at the St. Francis De Sales Auditorium at Narangi, Guwahati, NESCOM (North East Social Communication) awarded Aind the ‘NESCOM Journalisdm Award ‘ for his contribution to the field of journalism and reporting that has helped highlight issues and concerns of the marginalised especially the tribal communities, minorities and Adivasis in the tea gardens of Assam.
Aind is a senior journalist with one of the most prestigious newspaper of the North East India ‘The Assam Tribune’ and a journalist for the past 19 years. After his graduation from DHSK Commerce College, he pursued his Diploma in Mass Communications & Journalism with specialization in print journalism from NISCORT, Delhi and did his masters in mass communications and journalism from Guwahati University. He’s closely associated with SIGNIS India as vice president of SIGNIS NEI.
The award function was graced by Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil, Bishop Albert Hemrom the Chairman of NESCOM, Fr. Sabu Joseph, the Provincial MSFS, Allen Brooks, former chairman Assam State Commission for minorities and former vice president of Signis India, Fr. Tom Mangattuthazhe, the director NESCOM and a host of dignitaries.
Born in 1978, Aind is based at Boiragimoth, Dibrugarh, Assam. He conversant in Mundari, Sadri, Assamese, English, Hindi and Nagamese languages of NE India.
The writings and research skills of Pores were truly phenomenal in the year 2021. He researched and wrote a remarkable story from Assam and the impact was truly an opener. A lead article written by him entitled “Olympic torch bearer left to labour among tea bushes” (July 17, 2021) created a great impact, which led to her getting a government job. He followed it up with another amazing story, “London Olympic torch bearer Pinky gets a government job” (August,17,2021).
