Never Underestimate the Power of Prayer

In today’s Gospel, we read that Jesus spends time in prayer to discern the will of his Father before choosing the twelve Apostles. Afterward, he heals the people, cures those with unclean spirits, and we hear that power came out from him and healed them all. The prayer life of Jesus kept him in communion with his father, and as a result, he performed great deeds.

Today, Jesus teaches us to pray and draw strength from God the father. This is a practice we must adopt as well. Praying before an important action or decision is a valuable Christian practice.

Just as Jesus chose his disciples, we, too, are called and chosen for his mission. Although we have our strengths and weaknesses, we have responded to Jesus’ call. We need to learn from Jesus how to pray and draw strength from prayer to overcome our weaknesses. We set aside regular time for prayer each day, participate in family prayers and retreats. What is our approach to these prayer activities? Do we see them as opportunities to draw closer to God?

Let us cultivate a habit of prayer in our lives. We can never underestimate the power of prayer, which needs to be at the centre of our life.
