No One is Beyond God’s Love

Readings: Eph 4:1-7, 11-13; Mt 9: 9-13

Today the Church celebrates the feast of St. Mathew. Reflecting on the life of Matthew, we are encouraged to recognize that God can use us, no matter how troubled our past may have been, to do great things for his kingdom. It also challenges us to see others through the eyes of grace, knowing that every person has the potential to be transformed by the love of God. As St. Augustine has said, “There is no saint without a past, no sinner without a future.”

The first reading of the day reminds us that we are all part of one body, the Church, united in the one hope in Jesus. Despite our different roles and gifts—whether as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, or teachers—we are all given grace according to the measure of Christ. Our purpose is to serve, build up, and grow together in faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The gospel reading of the day highlights the unconditional love of Jesus. No matter who we are or what others may think of us, he still calls us to follow him. It also reminds us that no one is beyond God’s love. We are called to show mercy and compassion to others, just like Jesus. It challenges us to see others with compassion and love and to share our lives with everyone around us without judgment or prejudice.
