Readings: Dt 4:1, 5-9; Mt 5:17-19
The season of Lent directs us to a period of repentance, fasting, and preparation. It’s a time of obedience, prompting self-examination and reflection.
Today’s readings offer crucial insights into what commitment truly entails in our lives. In the first reading from Deuteronomy, Moses gives detailed advice on God’s statutes and decrees, emphasizing passing them on to future generations. In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that “not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law until all things have taken place.”
God calls us, every day, to trust in his providential care by embracing the law of love planted in our hearts. Our loving God has already implanted his law, his life, deep within us. Each day, we choose whether to embrace this law of love, which prompts us to surrender ourselves and act out of the love and mercy bestowed upon us by our father.
Therefore, observing the commandments and ruminating upon them fills us with grace, guiding our Christian lives. God hasn’t given us rules to merely fulfil; he offers us the path to receive his love and the fullness of life, which surpasses our understanding.
