Readings: Hg 1:1-8; Lk 9:7-9
First reading clearly emphasizes renewing of oneself through metaphorical representation of building of the Lord’s temple. Our body is the temple of God. Our body becomes a living tabernacle when we follow physical mortification by overcoming our bodily pleasures and temptations.
We are called to holiness through our modest behaviors and meek life. We are the image and likeness of God. His spirit is dwelling in our hearts. It is the same spirit which dwells in you and me to purify our hearts; such purity will enhance our genuineness towards sanctity.
Our heart becomes the dwelling place of God which is the greatest gift that makes us feel proud. On the other hand, the reading also warns those who refused to change their immoral behaviors and conduct.
We have tendency to live in uncertain future and overwhelmed about the past. Consequently, we forgo the present, the reality. So, through Gospel reading Jesus emphasizes that we need to leave the past, cast off the anxiety about the future and live the present with optimistic awareness and contentment. And we have to come out of our imaginary world.
We always worry about what would not happen in our life. Perplexity weakens our spirit. We forget the presence of God who is always with us. Sometimes we tend to take a path which is more suitable even if it hinders the destiny of others. Let us cast all our worries and anxieties to Jesus and seek for his guidance and support through our fervent prayers to transform ourselves in richness of values and virtues.
