Our Lives Need Spiritual Nourishment

Readings: Gal 1:13-24; Lk 10: 38-42

Very often we limit God by trying to find him in rituals and customs and we fail to understand that God is universal. With this mentality we condemn people who are against our beliefs. Saint Francis of Assisi discovered that God cares for everything, and he is everywhere.

In the first reading we heard about Saint Paul who was convinced that Judaism is the only true religion, therefore he persecuted many followers of Christ. But God has a plan for him to make known his love to all humanity. In our lives too we limit ourselves in receiving God’s grace and love by limiting him with our ritual and customs. In those situations, how can we understand God’s will? And how do we listen to his voice?

In the gospel, we see the conflict between two sisters in understanding God’s will. Both Mary and Martha expressed their love for Jesus in different ways. One tried to provide for his physical needs by keeping herself busy preparing food, Mary on the other hand was busy listening to Jesus’ word. Very often we are busy to fulfill our physical needs, but we also need to care for our spiritual needs. Today through these readings you and I are invited to examine our own lives, whether we are busy in searching for physical nourishment or Spiritual nourishment.
